The right direction…Here is the solution, “correct process is most important”!

Hears your Eagle shot!!

The last, but first step to successfully improving your golf game….

I’ve spent a great deal of time in this series discussing the many thought processes and approaches that can be taken to improve your golf game. The answer is not always that it’s the clubs fault or, that you need to hit more balls… My main point all throughout this series is to educate you on thinking about the right process for the best results!

As you have read there are many reasons for your inability to produce a desirable golf swing.  You have also been presented with many options you can take to try and improve your golf game.

But, remember one of the main points I’ve stressed the most is; don’t think of your golf game improvement as a task, think of it as a process.

Figuring out the correct process to follow allows the golfer to clean up the swing, make significant improvements in your game and really enjoy playing golf.

I’m a process oriented person, not a task oriented!

In my humble opinion the best approach to improving your golf game should be to see a “Golf Performance Specialist” first!   If you’re looking for long term solution and really want to change your golf game permanently, then I suggest you make a Golf Performance Specialist your priority.   I strongly suggest a Level 2 or greater TPI Fitness Pro.  I know there are many other golf certifications out there.  You may get lucky finding someone that can help you, but the odds of successfully finding the right professional with the necessary experience and credentials you need is a shot in the dark.  Taking my suggested rout greatly increases your odds of success.  TPI has a long history of success and a proven record.  It’s important to note, the Top 20 golfers on tour are using Titleist Performance Institute Professionals.  TPI also has a significant presence on the Golf Channel!  So, yes I’m bias, for at least 20 good reasons!

Let’s take a look at what specifically the golf performance coach will do for you.  First of all, they will perform a golf specific functional movement screen.  This screen is the key to your success or failure.  The screen looks at, at least 12 physical movements; this makes the screen extremely detailed and informative.  It provides the performance coach with concrete details on how your body moves during the golf swing.   Other important information the screen provides is what swing fault tendencies you have and why.   For instance, if you can’t touch your toes this could be due to lack of hip mobility, poor hip mobility does not allow good mechanics for a golf swing.  Also, if you can’t perform a proper overhead squat or you can’t balance on one foot these deficits can offer additional clues to correcting a poor golf swing.   The movement screen will show the Golf Performance Specialist if your muscles aren’t firing properly or you have a lack of mobility/stability.

All of these dysfunctional movement patterns and lack of muscular communication affect how you perform the golf swing.  It’s not then, about putting you on bosu balls, having you perform more behind the neck squats and throw you on a machine performing golf swing exercises!  It’s about program design; starting a fitness program directed at your specific needs.   This program may include but not limited to myo-facial work, corrective exercises such as, corrective movement patterning and body weight exercises.  Again, this is why I’m stressing using a TPI professional.  Their certification process requires a great many hours of experience on screening techniques, swing biomechanics, swing fault recognition, kinesiology and kinematic sequencing.

Let’s now go back to the swing coach (golf pro).  As I stated earlier in this how to improve your golf game series that working with swing coach (golf pro) could be a birdie.

Taking this route first (of seeing a swing coach /golf pro) may I suggest to you when you are making the appointment ask them if they have a golf performance coach they work with?  My hope is and what is most desirable is the swing coach (golf pro) works in concert with a golf performance coach.    If not, ask if they are apposed to it?  If they are not in favor of that strategy, you may want to find a different swing coach (golf pro).  Working together produces the best results!  Remember,” it’s about your success”!

Now it’s time to find a TPI Professional.  Locating one of these Professionals in your area is easy.   Just go to mytpi.com.  Once you’re in the site locate, find a fitness pro.  Then press that tab.  You then type in your location and all the TPI certified professionals close to your location will come up.  You will find that each professional has a complete biography for you to read. You’re set!!

I will continue to provide valuable golf tips…  You will have to stay tuned in!!
